MIKE OWENS

ABOUT

I am an artist and musician working in a variety of mediums. Originally from Southern Missouri, I have lived in several states and currently reside about 50 miles from Chicago in rural Valparaiso Indiana. I started drawing as a very young boy. In later years I took up other arts, including painting. I studied photography, figure drawing, ceramics and general humanities at St. Louis Community College receiving an Associate Degree. While working and raising a family, I received Bachelor of Science in Photography Degree from Northeast Missouri State University.

In my art and music, I seek to depict the character and spirit of the many earnest, hardworking people that I’ve had the good fortune know, work with and share life with.

In my art and music, I seek to depict the character and spirit of the many earnest, hardworking people that I’ve had the good fortune know, work with and share life with.

I started working as a young boy and have been in a wide variety of occupations. I have been a laborer in truck patches and green houses, washed pots and pans in a restaurant, worked on the farm, in an automotive plant, a furniture factory, a meat packing plant, as a construction laborer, at stuffing sale paper mailings, worked on the railroad, and served as a railroad union representative, to name a few. I also served in the Army in Vietnam.

A varied life experience has provided me with a wide range of subjects and constant inspiration. I strive to illustrate the intangibles of human character and emotion.
